Yeller
QH Gelding
Initial Assessment
Yeller's toes were about in the next county. His heels are quite
contracted, and the hoof capsule narrow and elongated. He was a
few weeks beyond a normal shoeing cycle, but his soles are still
extremely thin under the coffin bone.
Recommendations
His deep central sulci on
his front feet indicates a need for some escalated hygiene, including
soaking and scrubbing. I fitted Yeller with EasyBoot Epics and
12mm Comfort Pads for protection while we grow some sole under his
front feet! I'd like to see Yeller on a balanced diet.
Trim Notes
01-14-09
Still building sole, and waiting to see how the wall is going to grow
down from the coronet band. Yeller has vertical angles in his
hoof wall, and the old growth rings towards the bottom of the hoof are totally out of whack and growing
down at an angle from pillar to pillar. Odd. Frogs look
healthier.
02-11-09
It's easier now to see how Yeller's new hoof wants to be -- the top
inch or so of his hoof capsule looks much healthier and more robust.
He has a very pronounced ring about halfway down which probably
corresponds to pulling his shoes and getting proper circulation back
in the foot. There is some small white line separation which I
expect will disappear quickly now that Yeller is getting an
appropriate mineral supplement to precisely balance his diet.
Yeller is finally starting to shed some sole, and his solar concavity
improves every month. It becomes more obvious each month how
dramatically Yeller's hooves had been shaped and molded by his
previous farriers.
