Riley

Quarter Horse Gelding

Initial Assessment

Riley has a history of navicular disease, and it's pretty clear that he foundered some time in the past.  He stands with his front legs far underneath him, indicating heel pain.  His front feet show the signs of coffin bone remodeling.  He was very shallow soled when we first pulled his shoes.  He also had pretty serious thrush.

Recommendations

Aggressive hoof hygiene to eradicate the bacterial infection in his frogs.  Boots and pads 24/7 to keep him comfortable and landing heel first will greatly accelerate healing.  Diet assessment to address the typical imbalances will help address the thrush, as well as enabling Riley to grow a healthier hoof.
