Julia

Teenage BLM Mustang Mare

Initial Assessment

Julia's x-rays show serious deterioration of the navicular bone.  Our goal will be to keep her comfortable, and get her landing heel first to interrupt the destruction.  She is very uncomfortable on the left front.  She also shows considerable thrush.

Recommendations

Chlorine dioxide soaks to kill the thrush infection.  Improved hygiene in her pasture area will help keep this under control.  Attention to diet is also recommended; mineral balancing and avoiding excess carbs at least.

Trim Notes

Julia's left front quickly showed how inappropriate her previous trim was.  She shed out considerable sole at the back of the foot.  Prognosis will be better if diet and hygiene are addressed.
