Jackson
Teenage
TWH Gelding
Initial Assessment
Jackson has been barefoot about 8 months. He goes sound, but
there are a few things to notice here. He has mild white line
separation through his quarters. His hoof capsule is slightly
elongated, and a little contracted at the heel. His heels are
just this side of underrun. He presented chipping through the
quarters -- a combination of white line separation and diet. His
sole goes flat at the toe, indicating that we need to build a little
more sole coverage. His right front is just very slightly wry.
He's also wearing his toe -- which could just be laziness!
Not every horse grows a textbook hoof, even when eveyrthing -- diet,
trim, movement, lifestyle -- are correct. Jackson's feet work
well for him as they are; our goal will be to get the WL to tighten up
through the quarters, and the wall quality improve.
Recommendations
Diet balancing will help us grow healthier wall and tighten up the
white line.
