Fiona
2000 Norwegian Fjord Mare
Initial Assessment
Fiona has essentially nice feet; her heels and frogs are wide, and she
shows adequate collateral groove depth. Wall quality is not
great, though, and she has some white line separation. There
is barely discernible flaring to the dorsal wall of the right front.
Fiona shows the hallmarks of insulin resistance so common in the hardy
pony-type breeds, and she needs to have her diet strictly monitored.
Sensitivity to any carbs in her diet would account for the poor wall
integrity, as well as the separation.
Recommendations
I'd very much like to see Fiona on the So Cal Custom Blend. In
addition to the high iron typical in our Southern California Bermuda
hay, the well water at her facility has tested notably high in iron.
Proper balancing of the trace minerals is needed to avert iron
overload and subsequent relative deficiencies of copper, zinc and
manganese.
Trim Notes
Fiona is now on the So Cal Custom Blend, and her March trim showed the
difference! The persistent crack in the medial quarter of her
right front is finally growing out, and Fiona has dropped some weight.
