Felino

Andalusian Gelding

Initial Assessment

Long heels, toes trimmed aggressively from the bottom, chronic frog infection, and the most base-narrow HIND hooves I've come across yet.  Fortunately, Felino is relatively young, and proper trimming and diligent hoof hygiene should start Felino on the road to balanced, healthy hooves.

All four of Felino's feet show an elongated hoof capsule, with the frog drawn far forward of 2/3's of the length of the foot from heel purchase to toe.  His heels are quite contracted; his deeply fissured heel bulbs and the deep central sulcus of his frogs are indicative of fungal/bacterial infection.  The toes of the front feet are excessively worn at the toe from long-term toe-first landings.

Our goal is to balance the hoof, encourage the sole to achieve a uniform, adequate depth, and enable good, healthy heel-first strides.  The rest will fall into place accordingly.

Trim Notes

I'm seeing very little improvement in Felino's hooves.  Lack of adequate movement is the most likely cause.
