Bayou

Andalusian/Mustang Gelding

Initial Assessment

Tough feet, but quite long and considerable contraction from long term frog infection. I brought his heels to about 1 1/4" CG depth; we'll work on getting them to a more reasonable length, but best to address the frogs first, or he'll likely be sore. His right front is a little wry.

Recommendations

Just lowering Bayou's heels should help mitigate the thrush, but chlorine dioxide soaking and/or packing the central sulcus with cotton and essential oils would accelerate the process.

Trim Notes

We've made definite progress shortening the overall hoof capsule. Still some thrush that could be addressed, but overall Bayou's feet are healthy.

Update 12-27-09

Bayou's feet are looking fabulous. Regular soaking and scrubbing are helping those frogs and heels to open up. Bayou has been 100% comfortable all along!
