Taking Responsibility for Your Horse's Health

Horse owners rely on their vets and farriers for accurate advice. But just like with our own health, it's best to be informed and educate yourself. It's good to have professionals that you trust, but it's even better to have some background in order to truly make educated decisions regarding your horse's health.

Unlike human physicians, it's less than common to find veterinarians who specialize in a specific aspect of equine health.  Most large animal vets are general practitioners.  But you'll find that in spite of the general nature of their practices, each has a forte.  Some are exceptional at dentistry.  Others excel at lameness diagnoses. And some are indispensable for everyday things like giving shots or tubing the colicky horse.  Get acquainted with all of the vets that service your area, and avail yourself of their individual talents.  After all, you wouldn't go to your dermatologist for migraine headaches, now would you?
