Basics
It's easy to become overwhelmed on
the subject of equine nutrition. Feed companies barrage us with
advertising. Barn owners and trainers all have their own opinions on what
to feed. Old-school ideas persist in most areas, simply because it's how
it has always been done. When you press people for an explanation of why
they feed what they feed, chances are very good the response will be vague
and anecdotal.
Much of what you'll hear around the barn is misleading at best. Feeding
fads come and go. If you really want to structure the best possible diet
for your horse, forage testing and custom supplementation are the only way
to go. Using the guidelines put forth by the National Research Council in
the latest edition of Nutrient Requirements of Horses, and the
recommendations of top equine nutritionists, it's easy to formulate the
best possible plan for your horse.
We offer CUSTOM DIET BALANCING for $100 per horse.
Alternatively, you can learn to formulate a custom diet yourself. Leading
equine nutrition expert Dr. Eleanor Kellon of Equine Nutritional Solutions
offers online courses that cover the gamut of equine nutrition issues.
Access her website here: http://www.drkellon.com
We've also put together a primer of information to demystify the most
common equine nutrition issues on our Facts & Myths page.
